THESE police to police exchange programs are meant for learning not only for you but for the host nation as well.
Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said this in a statement issued today in welcoming an officer from the Kiribati Police Service under an attachment program with the Fiji Police Traffic Unit.
This was made possible after the signing of a letter of exchange between the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police, Fiji Police Force and Kiribati Police Services in Nauru in August this year.
Inspector Christopher Edwards has spent 20 years as a police officer in the Kiribati Police Service and most of his time has been spent in the traffic unit.
Mr Qiliho said while their policing landscape may differ slightly, it doesn’t mean they can’t learn because there may be things that Mr Edwards traffic operation team does better than Fiji.
Mr Edwards said he has spent a few days here and has witnessed the volume of traffic and he is intrigued as to how police operations would be conducted because there are lots of cars in Fiji compared to his home.
This exchange program is being facilitated through the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police and New Zealand.
