James ‘The Beast’ Singh has dedicated his upcoming heavyweight title fight to his two sons, who he says have played a key role in his boxing journey.
Singh will take on Semi Dauloloma in the main supporting bout of the Zeg Kings Boxing Promotion at the Vodafone Arena in Suva this Saturday.
On the line are the Fijian Heavyweight Title and the Leweni Waqa Memorial Belt, with the winner claiming both.
“The two boys, who go to school, wake up every morning at around 4am to help me with my training,” Singh said.
“They have been the backbone of my success. I was just a street kid in Suva. Boxing has given me the name I have today.”
He also paid tribute to his wife, Manisha Singh, for being his pillar of strength throughout his career.
The fight marks the fourth time Singh and Dauloloma meet in the ring. They each have a win, with the third bout ending in a double disqualification at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
Singh says fans can expect something different this time around.
“I hope he (Dauloloma) was faithful to his training. If he wasn’t, he should be worried. I know I wasn’t in good shape for my last few fights, but I have prepared for this one like I never have before.”
He added the heavyweight title holds deep meaning for him.
“It means everything to me. I have kept it for so long that I can’t imagine my life without it.”
Singh is also calling on fans to turn out in numbers, hinting it could be his last fight.
The main event of the promotion features Fiji’s Junior Binnu Singh taking on China’s Runqi Zhou for the WBA Oceania Super Bantamweight title.
