The Fiji National University and Tertiary Scholarships and Loan Services have clarified that sponsored students who have not been able to access their online program have not settled various fees.

This clarification follows concerns raised by students who have visited TSLS office that most have not been able to access their online program and have been told to pay up outstanding fees.

Some students claimed that they owe nothing else to FNU except their TSLS tuition fees which has not been paid but still cannot access their online moodle program.

FNU’s vice chancellor Professor Unaisi Baba said that TSLS-sponsored students’ accounts have not been placed on financial hold unless they have an outstanding fee that they are personally responsible for, such as repeated course charges, registration fees or accommodation fees.

“To have the financial hold lifted, students must settle all private dues,” she said.

“TSLS-sponsored students are restricted from accessing university services unless they have private dues.”

TSLS chief executive Dr Hasmukh Lal said FNU submits the tuition bill towards the end of the semester for actively sponsored students.

“This has never led to students account being on hold. Furthermore, a sponsored student is never locked out of moodle or any other learning access services unless they have got miscellaneous private fees owed to the institution.

“TSLS received few queries from students that their account is on hold.

“It was noted that there were miscellaneous dues such as General Service fees which is not covered by TSLS except for students on merit based scholarship. TSLS directly pays the allowance to students bank account or mobile wallet. It is the responsibility of the students to pay the hostel fees to the University.”
