FNU is new rugby inter-tertiary champ

Update: 7:31PM UNIVERSITY of the South Pacific (USP) relinquished their seven-year dominance to Fiji National University (FNU) at the Fiji University Sporting Association (FUSA) rugby Inter-tertiary competition today.

FNU won the rugby league, the 15s rugby union in both the Under-20 and the senior grades.

USP Head Coach Apenisa Vodo congratulated the FNU teams saying they were deserving winners.

“It was a really tough game but FNU clearly showed they were hungrier for the win and they were a much fitter side,” Vodo said.

FNU Coach Timoci Tavai thanked USP for a tough game worthy of the finals.

“In comparison to the other games we would run in three to four tries but we managed to score only once against USP and that indicated that USP was a quality team,” Tavai said.

He thanked God for giving them the victory and he commended his players for their hard-work and discipline during the game.

He said now they would look to the development of their players to prepare for next year’s game because a majority of their current squad would be graduating later this year.

RESULTS:

Under-20: USP 5-19 FNU; SENIOR: USP 0-5 FNU
