The Fiji National University (FNU) has denied claims that Council Chairman Semesa Karavaki was barred from entering his office, saying there are no restrictions on access for Council members or senior management across its campuses.

In a statement issued yesterday, the University said all Council members and members of management continue to have full and unrestricted access to FNU facilities across its 17 campuses nationwide.

“The Fiji National University wishes to clarify that there are no restrictions on entry for any Council members or members of the University’s management,” the statement said.

FNU acknowledged that there is currently a heightened security presence across its campuses but stressed that the measure is purely precautionary.

“The tightened security has been implemented in response to a rise in theft and other security-related incidents within campus premises,” the University said.

“These operations are intended to safeguard students, staff, visitors, and University property.”

The University emphasised that the enhanced security measures do not affect authorised access, including that of Council members and senior leadership carrying out official duties.

“All authorised personnel, including Council members and senior management, continue to have full access to all FNU campuses in the normal course of their duties,” the statement said.

FNU said it remains committed to maintaining a safe learning and working environment while ensuring effective institutional governance.

“FNU remains committed to transparency, safety, and the continued effective governance of the institution,” the statement added.
