The Island of Vatulele prepares to host its first Sports Development Train the Trainer (TOT) / Educate the Educator (ETE) program in Taunovo village next week on November 12-14.
The three days workshop is conducted by the Fiji National Sports Commission in partnership with the Sigatoka Community Police and various National Sports Organisations.
FNSC Sports Development Officer West Charlene Lockington confirmed 50 participants and 10 teachers from Vatulele District School will be part of the programme.
“We will have World Rugby Level One accreditation course, World Rugby Level One match official accreditation, netball certification, volleyball certification, boxing and Oceania Sports Education Program-Sports In Community administrator accreditation courses.
“We will have youths from four villages Taunovo,Ekubu, Lomanikaya and Bouwaqa,” Lockington said.
The FNSC is committed to promoting holistic community development. In line with this, the program is proud to partner with Sigatoka Community Policing, who will be present throughout the three days to conduct essential awareness sessions for participants and villages.
This partnership underscores the connection between sports development and broader community safety and well-being.
“This is a momentous occasion for the people of Vatulele.
“Our mission is to ensure sports development reaches every corner of Fiji. By empowering these 60 individuals, especially the teachers who are the backbone of youth development, we are not just teaching skills; we are creating a sustainable, locally-led sports infrastructure. This program will be a true catalyst for positive change and empowerment through active participation.”
