THE Vodafone Flying Fijians are bracing for one of their toughest rugby assignment against France in their Europe rugby tour.
The Fijian players have converged at the team camp in France as they geared up for their toughest rugby assignments.
Former national rep Peni Volavola said the forwards played a key role for the Fijians against the host team.
Volavola, who was part of the Fiji team that lost to France during the 1987 Rugby World Cup quarter-final, said the Fijian forwards should understand each other’s game style before battling against France.
He said the host team would be tough because players had been playing together in France.
The former Queensland rugby rep said the Fijians must have the will to beat France and the heart for the country to upset the home team.
“Fiji will have the game time disadvantage compared to France,” said Volavola.
“But I believe the importance of the white jersey will motivate the Fijians to do well.
“Representing the country is always special for all players and I am hopeful the boys will give their best shot against France.”
Volavola said the Fijians should play few friendly games before tackling the French.
“We need to give our players few game times to fully understand each other before taking on the French.
“Our forwards may have the experience of playing overseas but I think we should give them the opportunity to play together before the Test match.
“I think our backs will match their oppositions but again our backline will only flourish if the platform is well set by the forwards.
“I wish the boys all the best in their first game and I am hopeful they will give France a good run for their money.”
Some of the players that are expected to stamp their mark in the game are Napolioni Nalaga, Metuisela Talebula, Josh Matavesi, Nikola Matawalu, Levani Botia, Waisea Nayacalevu, Akapusi Qera, Leone Nakarawa and Vereniki Goneva
