More than 230 households in the Western Division affected by the recent floods have been assisted by government.
The distribution through the Commissioner Western’s Office reached families in Nadroga, Nadi, Lautoka and Ba.
Divisional planning officer West, Elimi Rokoduru said initial damage assessments found that the four districts were the worst affected in the region.
“In these districts, the households that were given food rations had water enter their homes and had food items and electrical items damaged in the flood.
“We did not have major structural damage where more assistance would be required.
“From our initial damage assessment, we have a total of 236 households that were badly affected by the recent floods.”
Mr Rokoduru said the most affected households lived between Nadi and Ba.
“For Ba, we went to Nailaga Village, Nawaqarua, Votua and Nasolo Village, and Nadi we had households in Nawajikuma, Nawaka, Namotomoto, Saravi, Legalega and Lavusa settlements.
“And in Lautoka, food ration was distributed to households in California, Lovu Seaside and Matawalu Village.
“For Nadroga, we had affected households in Nalele and the Naduri depot.”
He said non-government organisations have also reached out to affected families.
“We have had the South Pacific Foundation come on board with their distribution packs, and we also had FRIENDS Fiji join us in assisting affected families.
“So far we are monitoring the distribution process and working closely with the relevant government agencies to coordinate the distribution of these food packs.”
