The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has confirmed that road maintenance contractor Fletcher Higgins has issued a 28-day notice to terminate its contract and cease maintenance operations effective 20 November 2025.
This follows the announced by the company that 157 workers will be made redundant in the coming weeks.
In a statement, FRA said the company’s decision to end the agreement was made “at its own discretion.”
FRA described the move as regrettable and clarified that it has fully met its contractual and financial obligations to Fletcher Higgins.
“All payments due for maintenance work, including cost escalation claims, have been processed and are up to date,” said the FRA statement.
“We have maintained a strong and positive working relationship with Fletcher Higgins since 2017 and remain committed to honouring our contractual obligations.”
FRA said it had approved a nine-month extension for all its current contractors, including Fletcher Higgins, to ensure there was no disruption to essential maintenance services while new tenders are prepared and awarded by June 2026.
“FRA remains focused on ensuring the continued safety, reliability, and efficiency of Fiji’s road network.”
“We hope Fletcher Higgins will reconsider their position in the interest of the travelling public.”
