Flash flood alert remains in force for parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu

A flash flood alert remains in force for the northern parts of Viti Levu, from Lautoka to Ba and their interior, including the interior of Ra and Naitasiri. The alert also continues for Vanua Levu.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain continues to affect the northern parts of the country, increasing the risk of flash flooding.

The main hazard remains flash flooding caused by isolated heavy rainfall.

Authorities warn that impacts may include flooding in drainage systems, small streams, low-water bridges, Irish crossings, roads and properties in low-lying areas.

A heavy rain alert remains in force for the Northern Division.

Also under heavy rain alert are the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, as well as Tavua and Ra–Rakiraki areas.

There will be occasional rain, heavy at times with a few thunderstorms, is expected over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, and Tavua and Ra–Rakiraki areas.

Residents in affected regions are advised to remain vigilant, avoid flooded crossings and heed all warnings issued by authorities.
