Flash flood alert issued for entire Fiji Group

Listen to this article:

A flash flood alert is now in force for the whole of Fiji as a slow-moving trough of low pressure continues to affect the country.

According to weather authorities, the system is bringing persistent cloud and rain, with conditions expected to continue over the next few days.

The main hazard associated with this system is flash flooding caused by isolated heavy rainfall.

In Lautoka, the high tide was at 1.57pm, with low tide at 8.36pm.

In Suva, high tide was at 2.50pm, followed by low tide at 9.22pm.

The combination of heavy rainfall and elevated tide levels may increase the risk of flooding in coastal and low-lying areas.

Authorities warn that flash flooding may occur in drainage systems, small streams, low water bridges, Irish crossings, roads and properties located in flood-prone and low-lying areas.

Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant, avoid flooded areas, take extra care when travelling, and closely monitor official weather updates and advisories as conditions continue to develop.
