The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a flash flood alert for the entire Fiji group as a trough of low pressure moves across the country, bringing periods of heavy rain and the risk of sudden flooding.

Forecasters said an active trough carrying cloud and rain is gradually approaching from the west and is expected to affect the country through Thursday.

The system may trigger flash flooding, particularly where heavy downpours occur over short periods.

The potential impacts include flooding of drainage systems, small streams, low-water bridges, Irish crossings, roads and properties in low-lying areas.

Authorities are advising motorists and communities to exercise caution, avoid flooded crossings, and stay updated with further weather bulletins as conditions develop.

Members of the public are also reminded that flash flooding can occur quickly with little warning, even away from major rivers.
