Hard-hitting Swire Shipping Fijian Drua flanker Kitione Salawa Jnr is on track to make a return in the Super Rugby Pacific 2024 season.
The Namotomoto, Nadi native was in an exceptional form for the Drua last season before he injured his left shoulder in round seven of the competition and underwent a surgery in Australia.
“Kiti (Salawa) is coming back from shoulder injury and he is at the moment part of that process of getting ready and is tracking well,” said Fijian Drua coach Mick Byrne.
While speaking to this newspaper last year Salawa said he was confident of making a full recovery by March this year.
“I’m still rehabilitating and should be clear by March next (this) year. I have faith I will recover and come back strong on the field next year,” said Salawa in December, 2023.
Meanwhile, Byrne said they were excited for their seven home games to be played later this year in the competition.
“We are really looking forward to playing our home games and at the moment, we have not looked much past our first game against the Blues.
“We got the first one against the Crusaders at home in March and we are really looking forward to that and as the year unfolds, we will really start building to our home games,” said Byrne.
The Drua opens the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season against the Blues in Auckland, New Zealand on February 24.
