SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua prop Peni Ravai says his side will need to fix their lineout issues despite grinding out a 24-14 victory over the Highlanders in Suva on Saturday.
The home side showed resilience to recover after a tough opening half, where the Highlanders controlled much of the momentum and tested the Drua’s defensive structure.
Speaking after the match, Peni Ravai praised the opposition’s early effort but admitted the Drua were fortunate to come away with a win.
“I thought the Highlanders did really well in the first half, luckily we bounced back in the second half but too bad we couldn’t get a bonus point but we were lucky to get a win,” Ravai said.
Despite the result, the Fijian Drua were again inconsistent in the set pieces, with lineout execution proving costly at key moments and halting attacking opportunities.
When asked about the forward pack’s performance, Ravai pointed to both positives and areas that need urgent improvement ahead of their next fixture.
“We need to fix our lineout before the Waratahs game, that will be our main work on.
“We did well in the scrum,” he added.
The victory keeps the Fijian Drua competitive at home, but the side will be aware that tougher challenges lie ahead as they continue their campaign in the Super Rugby Pacific season.
