THE 2019 Vodafone Gold and Water Carnival was officially launched in Tavua on Friday night.

Five contestants were handpicked to represent businesses in the Tavua district to compete for the main crown.

This year’s festivities will focus on the theme ‘Promoting a Safer, Secure and Crime Free Community’.

In his opening speech at Garvey Park, Vodafone Fiji business account manager West Vincel Pickering said they were proud to set a platform – since 2009 – where the people of Tavua could enjoy a week of festivities.

He said the event also provided a platform for businesses and communities to get together.

“It not only benefits the needy through the charity chest but also provides a platform to the many confident young women, the opportunity to communicate issues of importance,” he added.

The carnival closes on Saturday.
