First round of T20 competition gets underway

The first round of the SportsWorld T-20 Super League 2025 tournament organised by the Suva Cricket Association got underway at Albert Park in Suva last Saturday.

Ten clubs are competing in the tournament which will end on March 15.

In yesterday’s round of competition, the Army, Cicia, Nasaqalau, CAF Warriors, BSP, Police, Fiji Development, Moce, Ono and Komo teams participated.

In Group A, BSP won over CAF Warriors by 34 runs with the former fielding 146-6 with 20 overs while CAF Warriors scored 112-9 with 20 overs as well.

Rashantha Sureshchandra was named player of the match.

Army won by 137 runs over Nasaqalau with 17.3 overs in a match where the scorecards stood at 157-9 (17.3 overs) and 20-6 (7.2 overs) for both teams respectively.

Niko Jokatama was named the best player for that match.

In Group B, Moce beat Ono by 75 runs, as they scored 173-9 with 20 overs and Ono with 98-9 and 18.2 overs while Tomasi Nawaciono was named player of the match.

Army won over Cicia by 41 runs, scoring 138-6 while their Lauan opponents made 97-8 as both teams scored 20 overs.

Prior to the start of competition, the tournament began with an opening ceremony where the general manager of sponsor SportsWorld, Vinod Kumar, the president of the Suva Cricket Association, Sumanta Rout and Cricket Fiji CEO Sitiveni Rokoro were present as guests of honour.

The six-week tournament also coincides with the association’s 70th anniversary which was commemorated at a press conference held at the SportsWorld Waimanu road branch last Thursday.
