First local series

FIJI’S first comedy television series will be aired on a local television station in October in a bid to create Fijian owned local industry and create employment for local people in the entertainment area.

The seven episode series is hoping to open doors for many local budding actors and producers.

The series, Spice of Life, is aired with local actors and is produced in three languages — iTaukei, Hindi and English.

Amol’s Production has partnered with the Fiji National University (FNU) Film Division to produce this series.

Amol’s Production director Amol Lal said the series was 100 per cent locally produced.

“Each episode has its own story for seven weeks. It’s a comedy series and is based on situations relating to us,” Mr Lal said.

He said the movie created fun and entertainment for the audience.

Mr Lal is producer and an editor of the production.

The production of the series has been a struggling one for the team.

“We have been struggling to get local support including media but no one gave that support,” Mr Lal said.

They had initially planned for 13 episodes but because of lack of funding, they managed to produce only seven.

“We will view the seven episodes to let people and businesses realise its commercial viability.”

Arun Chakravorty is the writer and director and is also acting head of department at FNU’s Raiwai Film Division.

Mr Chakravorty said the series was about day-to-day life issues with humour.

Most of the FNU film students were also featured in the series.
