Fiji will host its first Government Communications Conference later this month, aimed at promoting truth, unity, and responsible dialogue, Parliament heard on Wednesday.
Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya said the conference would launch a new national communications framework called Sautu, alongside the Government Communications Guidebook.
“The theme is simple but powerful — Coordinate, Collaborate, Elevate,” Ms Tabuya said.
“At this conference, we will launch the Government Communications Guidebook and a new national communications framework called Sautu. The word ‘sautu’ in iTaukei represents peace, harmony and well-being, and that is exactly what we want our information environment to promote — not confusion and not division, but truth, unity and responsible dialogue.”
She acknowledged the long-standing support of the Government Communications Services of the United Kingdom, who, she said, had been working with the ministry for a number of years.
“We are yet to sign the MOU on the renewal of this relationship, but I acknowledge their support in this conference that we will be hosting, and in the development of this Communications Guidebook called Sautu.”
She also thanked local colleagues for their role in improving Fiji’s information environment.
“While information shapes what our people believe, the environment shapes how people live and survive.”
