First for junior player

NATABUA High School student Vienna Kumar was given the privilege to toss the coin to decide who would serve in the match between world number three Rodger Federer and Nikoloz Basilashvili during the opening round of the Australian Open in Melbourne on Monday night.

Kumar was given the honour after she stood out during the Commercial Club Margaret Court Cup and the Victorian Grass Courts Championship last week.

She won the girl’s under-16 singles titles in both events.

Kumar teamed up with schoolmate Ruby Coffin to win the girl’s U16 doubles titles at both events also.

This is the first time for a junior tennis player from Fiji to be given the privilege to toss the coin at the Australian Open.

Federer from Switzerland defeated Basilashvili from Georgia in straight sets 6-2, 6-1, 6-2. He has won the Australian Open title on four occasions.
