Fiji Airways Fiji 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau says he is aware of the expectations from the people of Fiji as he heads for his first outing with his side at the Hong Kong 7s tournament next weekend.
The former 7s skipper and 2016 Olympic Games gold medallist was selected as head coach for the side after former head coach Ben Gollings failed to win a single tournament in the past two HSBC 7s Series.
“I’m excited to be heading with the boys to Hong Kong and I am aware of the expectations,” he said.
“I’m happy to be allowed to coach Fiji and to be able to start it off in Hong Kong.
“So, I’m looking forward to it and seeing what the boys have learned with me so far.”
The side has been placed in Pool B with Australia, Canada, and France.
“The series is tough now; all teams are coming up the ladder so every match will be tough,” Kolinisau said.
“But all we can do is work on our weaknesses and come prepared.”
Fiji is currently in third place with a total of 64 points, behind Ireland and Argentina in second and first place respectively.
They play their opening pool match against Australia next week on Friday at 9.30pm before taking on Canada on Saturday at 12.33am.
“Fitness is something we’ve been working with the boys for the past three weeks.
“This is because we want to get to that level where we control the tempo of the match and we will see when we go to Hong Kong.”
