Despite a downturn in business, popular eatery franchise Burger King remained loyal to its community commitment by giving yet another $9000 to the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children (FENC Fiji).

The official cheque handover was initiated at its flagship restaurant at Martintar, Nadi yesterday to assist the organisation in preparing needy Fijian children for the new school term.

Burger King General Manager Akash Narsey said the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in Fiji had been further compounded by the effects of Tropical Cyclone Harold which affected parts of the country.

“With schools reopening at the end of the month, this is the perfect opportunity to be able to hand over the collected figures so that FENC are able to do their admirable work and help those less fortunate kids before the new school term starts,” he said.

“This total collected sum from the past six months has amounted to $9000. “With this latest collection, we have now managed to collect around $80,000 since 2016 for the charity.”

FENC Fiji officer in charge national operations, Priya Lata, said education was one of the main instruments for reducing poverty and inequality.

“A big thanks to our corporate sponsors like Burger King because of whom such noble objectives can be realised as together, we can make a difference,” Ms Lata said.

She said the organisation was focused on assisting children in the maritime islands who were severely affected by the impact of Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold.
