A three bedroom wooden house was completely destroyed in a fire on Friday evening in Waiyavi, Lautoka.

Rev Saimoni Rokini Seru and his family had resided at the property for the past three years, which belonged to the Wainivakasoso Methodist Church.

Firefighters managed to save the church, located right next to the property, from being fully destroyed in the blaze.

The house was empty at the time of the incident.

“I was in Ba when I was informed of the incident,” said Mr Seru.

“We are only left with what we are wearing, and we are hoping to slowly rebuild it from scratch.”

He said the estimated cost of damage was around $100,000.

“It also housed the church office and its materials including all our belongings as well.”

Investigations by both the National Fire Authority (NFA) and Fiji Police are believed to be ongoing.
