Fire lands nine in hospital

NINE people are admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, with two on life support, following a fire at the Zamzam Restaurant yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health confirmed all nine victims sustained burns in the incident and were receiving treatment.

The rest are on Inhalation Burn Treatment and Facial Burn Treatment.

Medical teams at the hospital’s Emergency Department were continuing efforts to stabilise those affected.

“Doctors at the Emergency Department are doing their utmost best in treating the burn victims.”

The Occupational Health and Safety team from the Employment Ministry was also deployed to the scene for investigation.

The National Fire Authority has yet to determine the cause of the fire at the Samabula eatery.
