The St Anthony’s Catholic Church located at Raviravi, Ba was destroyed in a fire on Sunday night.
It was the property of the Catholic Church in Fiji and was vacant at the time of the incident.
The fire was reported to the National Fire Authority at 10.20pm.
“The building was not insured. It was constructed of concrete floor, wooden wall with corrugated iron roof, and measured approximately 34m x 12m,” said NFA chief executive officer Puamau Sowane.
“The church has a power supply from EFL but with no water supply from WAF. The estimated damage to the structure is about 90 per cent, and the estimated cost of damage is $80,000.”
Mr Sowane said an investigation will be carried out to determine the suspected cause of fire.
“NFA continue to advise members of the public to very careful when living their properties vacant.”
