NO celebratory plans have been confirmed so far for the Fiji Bulika’s historic achievement as the nation’s first women’s rugby league team to qualify to a Rugby League World Cup .
Bulikula thumped Nigeria 62-4 to win the IRL World Series final in Ontario, Canada on Monday, securing their spot for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Fiji National Rugby League chairman Akuila Masi says any celebratory plans for the team will need approval from the FNRL board.
He added that the organisation utilized a substantial figure to get the team to participate at the qualifiers, therefore any celebratory plans will be a difficult financial decision for the FNRL.
“Sending the team across to Canada we utilised almost half a million dollars in terms of their preparations, air-fares and everything that comes with it.
“As I mentioned before we would love to do that (celebrate their victory) this is a huge achievement for the girls and it worth celebrating it,” he explained.
Meanwhile the chairman has invited potential sponsors and partners for the Bulikula team for their much-anticipated Rugby League World Cup debut next year.
