Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Prof Biman Prasad has clarified Fijians can still take out their retirement funds from Fiji National Provident Fund at the age of 55.
He made the comments related to the story published in The Fiji Times today, that states otherwise.
He said the regulation that has been changed is in relation to Fijians eligibility to re-join the FNPF.
“The entitlement age continues to be 55 years (age after which members can withdraw) which has not been increased as per the Fiji Times report,” he said.
“The regulation that has been amended was in respect of readmission and allowing FNPF members to re-enter FNPF twice, instead of once as was the provision before.”
He added the withdrawal of full funds at retirement at 55 years remains in law.
The Fiji Times regrets the error and offers an apology for the inconvenience caused.
