Some top local boxers will be in action tonight in a promotion in Australia.

Asia Pacific Boxing matchmaker and co-ordinator Simon Naushad said this was an opportune time for local boxers to hit the international arena.

“The Asian borders are mostly closed, that is why Australia has given us first preference,” Naushad said.

“This is a perfect opportunity for our local boxers to book for future fights for themselves.”

He said some boxers depended on the sport for their livelihood and this opportunity came at the right time.

“While the athletes are there for passion, they also need money to keep themselves going. There haven’t been any promotion locally and the boys will get a good chance to earn some dollars,” he added.

In bouts tonight, James Singh will take on Willis Meehan, the son of former Fijian heavyweight boxer Kali Meehan in a 6×3 minute heavyweight division bout.

Ronald Naidu battles Qamil Bala in a welterweight bout while Krishnil Mudaliar takes on Ibrahim Balla in a lightweight bout.
