Fijians are losing the opportunity to work in Australia and New Zealand because of drug abuse, Minister for Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations and Youth and Sports, Parveen Kumar said.

He made the comments in Nadarivatu last week while closing the Fiji National Sports Commission organised Train the Trainer program at Nadala Village.

“In my other portfolio in employment, we are sending our Fijians to Australia and New Zealand under the Pacific Labour Scheme and Seasonal Workers Program,” he said.

“Majority of them who came for interview, all the boxes during the interview are ticked except for one.

“Guess what? “What was the reason that they failed?”

“Drugs. They lost that opportunity and that is why it is very important, not only in sports, you also lose job opportunities.

“Be aware of that.”
