THE Fiji men’s triples team of David Aitcheson, Arun Kumar and Waisea Senibici has qualified for the 2016 World Bowls Championship after impressing at the Asia Pacific Championship in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The side recorded five wins and a draw to lead section one.
Yesterday, Fiji drew with the Cook Islands 18-all.
On Wednesday, Fiji recorded close wins against Niue and the Norfolk Islands.
Fiji beat Niue 18-16 and edged Hong Kong 17-15.
Fiji men’s team manager Curtis Mar said they allowed the opposition to dominate the second half of the matches.
“We won both games in the final end,” Mar said.
“The men’s pairs team of Rajnesh Prasad and Semesa Naiseruvati had another mixed day beating Japan in the morning but then lost to China.
“The ladies fours team are in a very tough draw with world champions Australia and Malaysia in the same pool together with Brunei and Canada. The ladies have won two and lost two and have to win the remaining games to determine their fate.
“Sainiana Walker, playing in the ladies singles, also had a mixed day losing her first game against Canada then had a fantastic comeback win against Hong Kong China after trailing 16-5.
“She lost to her Singapore opponent and will have to win the remaining games to see Fiji qualify for the World Championships.”
