FIJI’S High Commissioner to Australia Ajay Amrit joined the Fijian community in Brisbane to celebrate five years of charity work on foreign land.

These Fijians are members of the Alpha and Omega Church and have been feeding and clothing the homeless in Brisbane.

The Feeding Program, founded by Pastor Meli Tamanisau and his wife Everlyn during the COVID period, is a weekly program that has involved many volunteers including PALM Scheme workers.

Mrs Tamanisau said that it all began with her husband who would usually bring meat home for the congregation.

“We would share it with the congregation, family and friends but after a while I told my husband that I would rather cook it and give it to those in need,” she said.

At the event, Mr Amrit said the program involving Fijians was a wonderful experience.

“What a wonderful experience, especially feeding the underprivilege. They are all out here serving the people and it is an honour to be part of this celebration.”

Mr Amrit also assisted in distributing the food packs while in Brisbane and encouraged the Fijian community to keep up the great work done for the homeless.
