A group of Fijian rugby players helped Wagga City bag the first ever Port Macquire 10s tournament in New South Wales, Australia.

These 11 Fijian men travelled by bus for 10 hours from their residence in Wagga Wagga to the competition venue in Port Macquire.

They include Nikotimo Naituku, Tomasi Nabuliwaqa, Akuila Nokata, Waisale Sauvinaloto, Senitiki Vatuloka, Ratu Netava Veibuli, Filipe Tuwawa, Noa Rabici, Waisale Vesikula, Pio Delasau and Jone Kurusiga.

Wagga City defeated Kempsey Cannonballs 20-5 in the final.

“While on our 10-hour trip, we talked about our will to win, losing was not an option,” player Naituku shared.

“Our trainer Saula Naivakacavu has been training us from January, this was the third tournament that we’ve taken part in this year.

In all the three tournaments including the Melbourne Bula Festival 7s and the Cowra 10s, we’ve managed to reach the final, we were runners-up in two and we are glad to finally win one.”
