The Vodafone Fijiana XV are gearing up for an exciting challenge at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup (RWC) in England.
The Fijian side has been drawn into a tough Pool B, where they will face formidable opponents in Canada, Scotland, and Wales.
The tournament, set to run from September 7 to October 28, promises to be a defining moment in the women’s rugby calendar.
Alana Thomas, the Fiji Rugby Union’s women’s high performance unit manager, expressed confidence and excitement following the draw.
“Being drawn in such a competitive pool is a testament to the growth of women’s rugby in Fiji.
We are eager to take on the challenge and represent our nation with honour,” Thomas said.
The Fijiana XV recently returned home after competing in the WXV3 competition in Dubai and have completed their exit reviews.
They will take a brief break before reconvening in November to begin preparations for the World Cup. Reflecting on the past season, Thomas acknowledged the team’s achievements.
“It’s been the biggest season in the history of the Fijiana XV, with 11 Test matches that saw us qualify for the RWC, win the Oceania Championship, and beat Japan for the first time.”
The squad’s recent northern tour, which included a match against Scotland, has provided the players with valuable experience.
While the result didn’t go in their favour, Thomas noted that the exposure to Six Nations-style rugby and playing in foreign conditions will prove beneficial in the World Cup.
With anticipation building ahead of the 2025 RWC, the Fijiana XV are ready to carry the spirit of Fiji to England and make their mark on the global stage.
