Veteran player Rusila Nagasau says they have set the platform for the next Commonwealth Games after going down to Australia in the gold medal final.

Fiji lost 12-22 to settle for the silver medal after an impressive performance in Birmingham, England.

The 36-year-old, a bronze medallist from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games said their aim before leaving for England was to win a medal.

“We could not get the gold medal but we achieved our goal,” Nagasau said.

“I’m very proud that we managed to get the silver medal.

“The Commonwealth Games come every four years, so we have set the standard for the next one.

“I’m really happy for the girls for giving all their effort.”

The Fijiana 7s squad will take a short break and march back into camp to prepare for the Rugby World Cup Sevens in South Africa in September.

“For us, every game is like the final and we just missed the gold,” she said.

“It is not about falling down, it’s about fighting back on the way up.

“The focus now is on the World Cup.

“We now take a much-needed break and then march into camp.

“We are happy at home to see our families after more than three weeks.”
