Members of the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua team yesterday received $328,000 from the Coalition Government for winning the Super W title for the second consecutive year last month.

The players and management will each receive $8000. Officiating at the achievement reward in Suva last night, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said the Fijiana Drua’s success had become an integral part of the nation’s sporting legacy.

“Those coming after you will have big footprints to follow,” the former Flying Fijians prop said.

“You have raised the bar and it will be a challenge to all generations of players after.”

Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru said the team had showcased the true essence of teamwork.

“This recognition not only celebrates their outstanding achievement. But also symbolises Government’s commitment to honouring and uplifting our sporting heroes,” Saukuru said.

While giving the vote of thanks, Fijiana Drua captain Bitila Tawake commended Government for recognising women’s rugby in Fiji and hoped they continued to support the team.
