Vodafone Fijiana XV head coach Ioan Cunningham says discipline will be a key focus when his side takes on Tonga in their opening match of the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship at Lawaqa Park tomorrow.
Cunningham admitted that discipline has been an area of concern and one the team has worked hard to improve ahead of the tournament.
“It’s something that we’ve got to work on. We’ve got to be honest with ourselves and it probably needs to improve.
“That is something that we’ve discussed as a group how we do that. The next two matches with Tonga and Samoa will be a great test for us on improving our discipline,” Cunningham said.
With just a day left before kick-off, the Fijiana team is putting final touches on their preparation.
“We’re really looking forward to our first game against Tonga, which will be a great challenge for us.
“We’ve worked on a bit of game management, some skill work and our accuracy around keeping hold of the ball,” he added.
He also praised the forward pack, saying they are a key strength of the side.
Cunningham expects a tough and physical match from Tonga.
“They’re passionate and organised. I watched last year’s game and they’re a quality team. It’s important we start well and get our plays working early.”
The match kicks off at 2pm tomorrow at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
