TWO youngsters from the Rugby Academy of Fiji have managed to secure a scholarship each to Tokai University in Tokyo, Japan.
Twenty year olds Lekima Nasamila and Waisake Raratubua were over the moon when they were notified of the offer.
Both boys were members of the Fiji under 20 side that came out victorious in the World Rugby U20 trophy in Romania last month.
Nasamila said the scholarship offer was a blessing and a promising opportunity in his rugby career.
“I can say that I am fortunate and blessed to be offered this scholarship. This opportunity is a positive start to my career,” said Nasamila.
“My parents were really proud when I told them the news. My aim is to go and play as well as work hard so I can not only excel in rugby but in the work field too,” he added.
Raratubua said he was just as excited to hear of the news because as his friend said, it was a good opportunity for his future.
“I was pleased with myself because I know that my hard work had paid off,” said Raratubua.
“Being chosen is a relief for me seeing that I have just left high school and another window of opportunity has come up.
“When an opportunity like this comes up, it’s always good to grab it because it is something that will be beneficial for our future. Not only are we going to play but getting a good education overseas,” said Raratubua.
Rugby Academy of Fiji founder Seremaia Bai said he was pleased that two boys from the academy were picked for the scholarship.
“It is a positive message for the academy in the sense that we are doing something that is working,” said Bai.
“It is through the training and mentoring of the boys that they are able to secure a scholarship with Tokai University.
“The credit goes to the team and the players themselves for putting in the hard work.”
