Fijian workers in Australia are sending home an average of $2,010 each month, directly benefiting families, communities, the vanua and the national economy, says Minister for Employment Agni Deo Singh.
With about 5,500 Fijians currently employed in Australia, the Minister emphasised that labour mobility under the Vuvale Program is about strengthening family bonds.
He made the comments in Kadavu yesterday as 18 villagers were handed documentation to go and work in Australia.
“This is your opportunity to transform your family’s struggles into success. The choices you make today will affect not only your future but also the future of your loved ones,” Mr Singh said.
The 18 villagers have been recruited by Australian employer PLL Contractors for four-year work visas under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme.
Mr Singh reminded workers to stay focused, uphold their rights, and keep family at the heart of every decision.
“The commitment of the vanua is key — this is now a family journey, not just a worker’s journey,” he said.
