A Fijian childcare worker has returned to Queensland to face court over an alleged rape that is said to have occurred four years ago.
The offence is alleged to have taken place at a Sunshine Coast childcare centre between February 23 and April 27, 2022.
Arvind Ajay Singh, 43, appeared in the Maroochydore District Court yesterday.
The Crown applied to vary Mr Singh’s bail conditions, which were originally set in 2023 and required him to report weekly to the Nambour police station.
Defence lawyer Matthew Cooper told the court they were awaiting a draft bail order from the prosecution.
Once finalised, it would be presented to Judge Glen Cash in chambers, after which Mr Singh would be released on bail.
The ABC has previously reported that Mr Singh’s visa was cancelled following his arrest and that he was deported to Fiji in July 2025.
An arrest warrant was later issued in September after he failed to appear in court.
Judge Glen Cash set the matter down for trial on March 16, 2026, at the Maroochydore District Court.
