ALL hands will be on deck for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua when it sails into the 30th edition of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition this year.
With the competition anticipated to gain higher traction and significance as its runs into its third decade, head coach Glen Jackson has affirmed how high the stakes will be.
“Most teams have been playing for 30 years, this is our fifth year of playing Super Rugby,” Jackson pointed out.
“It’s a massive difference between 30 and five so we’re always learning as a club, as a country, as an organisation.
“So, 30 years for us probably doesn’t mean a whole lot around the comp, but we just know how important the competition is.”
And in understanding the heightened importance, he mentioned how other teams were out to ensure they put “their hand up” for success.
“There will be a lot of teams putting their hand up, but we’re very happy and excited by the squad that we’ve selected.
“Again, like I talked about, the leaders in the squad are really stepping up and want to prove the worth of how good this team has been going for the last few years.”
This year, the team is setting out to redeem themselves from last season’s performance where the team won most of its home matches but trailed behind in away matches with losses in each of them.
Super Rugby Pacific will kick-off this year on February 14, when the Fijian Drua will also face Moana Pasifika at Churchill Park in Lautoka at 3.30pm.
