Gospel High School sprinter Salamisa Masi hopes to win gold and stamp his mark in this year’s Coca-Cola Games.

Masi participated in the school’s inter-house competition at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

The 15-year-old hails from Joma Village on Kadavu and represented his school during last year’s games, running in 4×100 metres relay.

“I have set my goal to represent my school in the athletics competition and win gold medals,” he said.

“I have been training during the school break knowing that I am capable of representing my school. I want to represent my school again in this year’s competition.”

Meet manager Donald Reece said the committee was overwhelmed with the turnout after last year’s interhouse was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are starting early to get the athletes ready before the zone competition,” he said.

“This year there is a good number of students taking part which is a positive result compared to last year.

“Our preparation is on track and having our inter-house is mainly to get the athletes to know what is expected from them.

“We are looking at a good number of athletes who are running at their very best.

“We hope to get a good number of athletes to represent us in the field and track events.”
