The opportunity for a pre-season clash between the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and a team made up of the best players in the Skipper Cup has been welcomed by head coach Glen Jackson.
Speaking during the Fiji Rugby Union’s 2025 Symposium last week, Jackson said it would “be great fun to watch”, where the Fijian Drua could test itself ahead of a new season of Super Rugby Pacific.
The notion of having a pre-season match with a Skipper Cup XV team, according to Jackson, would break up the monotony of the team’s pre-season activities by clashing with the best players in Fijian provincial rugby.
“In terms of the Drua and giving back to what the Skipper Cup is, it would be great just to get a good game between a selection of the Skipper Cup and the Drua,” he said.
“Not only that, it changes things up from us just playing each other because we know each other pretty well.”
He presented on the Fijian Drua’s alignment with helping Fiji Rugby progress by being a team from which its players could be selected to don the FIJI Water Flying Fijians jumper and also, help develop new players infused with energy and talent.
Jackson presented at the symposium in a segment dedicated to Super Rugby, followed by the Fijian Drua’s general manager Baden Stephenson last Monday.
