Palm Sunday is a celebration of honouring Jesus Christ’s victorious entry into Jerusalem.
Yesterday, children from Christian denominations around the country donned their best Sunday wear to celebrate this auspicious occasion.
Noa Matakibau, a church member of Caqiri/Nasole Methodist church, said this year’s Palm Sunday celebration was extra special for the children.
“After COVID it’s extra special. I think it’s been about two years then the children are coming back to celebrate together,” Mr Matakibau said.
Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma communications secretary Reverend Wilfred Regunamada said the theme for the church’s Palm Sunday was ‘Evangalising of children, youths through education’.
“The theme is to help enlighten young people and empower them through education,” Mr Regunamada said.
“Not only that but also to know the importance of Christian education.
“We are trying to enhance the importance of education as part of our spiritual nurturing, to build the spirit, characters and thoughts of our children, especially during this time of increasing dropouts and COVID-19.”
