Fijian boxers will need to step up if they need to secure fights overseas.

Competition results of local boxers against overseas opponents have not been positive, says the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF).

BCF West director Usman ‘Lale’ Ali said Saturday’s South Pacific Boxing Promotions Program at Prince Charles Park in Nadi went very smoothly.

He said there were a few fights that went through technical knockout decisions while a few went for the full rounds.

“The last fight, we said that our boxers from Fiji need more training facilities to bring their standard up,” Ali said.

“Overseas, the boxers were not affected much by COVID-19.

“Our boxers were very affected. The BCF and the promoters need to support the sport.

“There are a few more programs coming soon.”
