FIJIAN coaches have the capability to develop rugby in the Pacific Island countries says former Fiji rugby player Alifereti Mocelutu who has been coaching Solomon Islands 7s team.

There are five Fijian coaches who have played together and have been coaching their respective teams in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games.

While Mocelutu coaches Solomon Islands, he is being assisted by former Fiji 15s coach Ilivasi Tabua while Wallis and Futuna had the services of Sailosi Nawavu and

Alifereti Doviverata had been guiding Tuvalu in the competition.

Former Fiji 7s and Suva robust runner Saiasi Fuli was on the sideline for his Fiji team.

“We are all the elite players and it is good to share the knowledge around the region and lift the standard of rugby in the other rugby apart from Fiji which is doing very well,” he said.

“Fiji has lot of potential in players and coaches.

“We played together for the 7s World Cup in 1993 and then in 2003 and with modern rugby now played we have to get our share the knowledge and get the new ideas and game pattern.

“I have played with Fuli for Suva and Nawavu has also got a good record as well.”

Fuli said the coaches had come a long way in their career.

“These are the highly qualified coaches in Fiji and it is a very healthy sign of the coaches being engaged in the other countries and they will just expand their coaching expertise to the international teams,” he said.

Meanwhile, Australia-based Ilivasi Tabua said he was confident to lift the standard of rugby in the smaller nations along with the other former coaches.
