The Fiji Meteorological Service has placed the country under a La Niña Watch, warning of increasing odds of wetter-than-usual conditions over the coming months.
The latest Fiji Climate Outlook indicates that a weak La Niña is likely to develop between November 2025 and January 2026.
According to the outlook, normal to above-normal rainfall is expected across most of the Fiji Group during November.
From November 2025 to January 2026, above-normal rainfall is likely across Fiji and Rotuma as the wet season intensifies.
The trend is expected to continue into February to April 2026, with normal or above-normal rainfall forecast for most areas.
Forecasters also expect higher-than-usual maximum and minimum temperatures across the country throughout November and into early 2026.
The Weather Office says that as Fiji moves closer to La Niña conditions, the nation should prepare for above-average rainfall, noting that La Niña events typically increase rainfall during the wet season.
Communities are advised to remain alert for possible flooding risks in the coming months.
