Fiji has voted in favour of a United Nations resolution affirming the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, independence, and freedom from Israeli occupation.
The vote took place at the UN general assembly and stresses that this right is inalienable, unconditional, and non-negotiable, rejecting any so-called “security measures” imposed by Israel as preconditions.
Fiji was amongst 170 countries voted in favor of the resolution, including Canada, Australia, all EU member states, and the majority of nations from South America, Asia, and Africa.
Only six countries voted against the resolution: Israel, the United States, Argentina, Paraguay, Micronesia, and Nauru.
Pacific countries that abstained were Tuvalu, Tonga, Palau, Papua New Guinea and Kiribati.
