TOTAL trade in goods and services – both exports and imports – between the United Kingdom and Fiji was recorded at £169 million (approx. $F504.1m) in the four quarters to the end of the third quarter last year.
That represents an increase of 106.1 per cent or £87m ($F259.1m) in current prices from the four quarters to the end of the third quarter in 2024.
According to the UK’s Department for Business and Trade’s latest statistics on trade and investment between the UK and Fiji released late last month, the four quarters to the end of quarter 3 (Q3) 2025 saw Fiji’s exports to the UK recorded at £123m ($F366.6m) – an increase of 119.6 per cent or £67m (approx. $F199.6m) in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q3 in 2024.
It stated that of all exports to the UK in the four quarters to the end of the third quarter of 2025, £2m (approx. $F5.9m) or 1.6 per cent were goods and 98.4 per cent (£121m – approx. $F360.8m) were services.
In the same period, it stated that exports of goods to the UK from Fiji decreased by 94.7 per cent or £36m (approx. $F107.2m) in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q3 in 2024.
Export of services from Fiji increased by 572.2 per cent or £103m (approx. $F307m) in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q3 in 2024, it added.
The top five goods exported to the UK from Fiji in the four quarters to the end of Q3 last year were beverages and tobacco – £2.6m, specialised machinery (intermediate) – £0.2m, other manufacturers (consumer) – £0.1m, unspecified goods – £0.1m, and fish and shellfish – £0.1m.
The department also reported that in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2025, total UK exports to Fiji amounted to £46m (approx. $F137m) – an increase of 76.9 per cent or £20m (approx. $F59.5m) in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q3 in 2024.
It stated that of all UK exports to Fiji in the four quarters to the end of Q3 last year, £17m (approx. $F50.6m) or 37.0 per cent were goods and £29m (approx. $F86.4m) or 63.0 per cent were services.
“In the four quarters to the end of Q3 2025, UK exports of goods to Fiji increased by 70.0 per cent or £7m (approx. $F20.8m) in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q3 2024 while UK exports of services to Fiji increased by 81.3 per cent or £13m (approx. $F38.6m) in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q3 2024.
The UK Department of Business and Trade said the UK reported a total trade deficit of £77m (approx. $F229.6m) with Fiji, compared to a trade deficit of £30m ($F89.4m) in the four quarters to the end of Q3 in 2024.
“In the four quarters to the end of Q3 2025, the UK had a trade in goods surplus of £15m (approx. $F44.7m) with Fiji, compared to a trade in goods deficit of £28m ($F83.5m) in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2024.
“Meanwhile, in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2025, the UK reported a trade in services deficit of £92m (approx. $F274m) with Fiji, compared to a trade in services deficit of £2m (approx. $F5.9m) in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2024.”
According to the department, in the four quarters to the end of Q3 last year, Fiji was the UK’s 145th largest trading partner – accounting for less than 0.1 per cent of total UK trade; joint 160th largest export market, and 128th largest import market.
