Sportsworld Fiji’s under-20 team put on an impressive performance in their first match of the Oceania Under-20 Rugby Championship, defeating Tonga 46-22 at King Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

Josaia Ralulu was quick to put Fiji on the scoreboard with a try right after kick off, showcasing the host team’s dynamic flair.

This was followed by outside center Pita Manamanaivalu scoring Fiji’s second try, after a converted penalty from Tonga.

Fiji’s winger Emosi Nuku added to their lead with a third try, capitalising on a quick reaction from hooker Moses Armstrong Ravula.

The Sportsworld Fiji U20s extended their lead to 22-3 as halfback Adam Khan scored following a break by Noah Rauluni.

At halftime, Fiji was comfortably ahead at 34-10, but they didn’t let up as captain Iliesa Erenavula scored another try soon after the break.

With a 41-10 lead, Fiji continued to dominate, but Tonga started to find their footing and managed to score tries through fullback Siua Vaitai and Penisamani Fanua, bringing the score to 41-22.

Despite Tonga’s resurgence, Fiji’s flyhalf Asi Fuli sealed the victory with a final try.

The teams will face each other again in round two next Monday, with Fiji taking on Canada before Samoa faces Tonga.
