Fiji U19 starts campaign

THE Fiji under-19 side arrived yesterday in New Zealand for the Pepsi ICC EAP U19 men’s trophy event and 2016 U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.

The tournament which starts today will feature Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.

The national side will start its campaign against PNG today followed by the clash against Vanuatu tomorrow and Samoa on Friday.

Fiji coach Shane Jurgensen is optimistic of the team’s chance in the tournament.

“We’ve trained hard in Suva and New Zealand and are confident that with the squad and training structure we have, can put on a strong performance against the other sides,” Jurgensen said in a Cricket Fiji statement.

The winner of this tournament will gain automatic entry into the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup to play alongside Australia, England, India and others to be held in Bangladesh in 2016.
