The Fiji Sports Council Board will appoint an independent investigator to examine fresh allegations levelled against the council, chairman Peniasi Sokia has confirmed.

In a statement issued following a special board meeting held on Tuesday evening, February 17, Sokia said the full board, with six members present, unanimously agreed that an external party should be engaged to carry out a thorough and independent review.

“The Board will appoint an independent investigator to examine the fresh allegations levelled against the Fiji Sports Council,” Sokia said.

He explained that the meeting was convened solely to review the allegations and supporting documentation, and to deliberate on the appropriate actions to be taken by the Board.

“It was resolved and approved unanimously by all members present that an independent investigation is necessary,” he said.

Sokia added that the Board is currently in discussions with professional auditors and investigators to confirm their availability to immediately undertake a full investigation into the matter.

“Until such time as an appointment is made, I regret that I am unable to comment further,” he said.

The Fiji Sports Council said it would provide further updates once an independent investigator has been formally appointed.
